Last revised: September 5, 2026
RoomMe helps people get a more informed first introduction to potential roommates. That takes some personal information: what you choose to put on a profile, how you use the service, and, only when you enable it, connection information that helps surface mutuals. This policy explains the categories we handle, why we use them, and the choices available to you.
Notice at collection
RoomMe may collect account and contact details, profile and lifestyle information, content and messages you submit, connection data you choose to enable, device and usage data, feedback, and purchase-status information. We use these categories to run and improve the Services, help facilitate introductions, keep the Services safe, communicate with you, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information for money or make it available for cross-context behavioral advertising through this website. If that changes, we will update this notice and provide any choices required by law before the change takes effect.
Scope
This policy applies to RoomMe's websites, applications, and related services that link to it (together, the Services). It does not govern third-party websites, social platforms, app stores, payment platforms, or people you meet through RoomMe. Their terms and privacy practices apply to their services.
Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the Services and the features you turn on.
Information you provide
- Account and contact details, such as your name, email address, phone number, account credentials, and account settings.
- Profile and preference information, such as photos, written bios, roommate preferences, lifestyle answers, neighborhood or city preferences, and other details you choose to share.
- Content and communications, including messages, support requests, reports, survey responses, and feedback you send to us.
- Connection information, if you choose to link a social profile, connect contacts, or use a mutual-connections feature. The relevant permission screen or in-product notice explains the data needed for that feature.
- Purchase and subscription status, when you buy or manage a paid feature. App stores, payment processors, and subscription providers generally process payment-card information directly; RoomMe may receive confirmation, status, and transaction-related records.
Please do not put government ID numbers, account passwords, payment-card details, precise home addresses, or other highly sensitive information in a public profile or message.
Information created through use of the Services
We may generate or receive information about how you use RoomMe, including profile completion, feature interactions, match and connection signals, communications metadata, reports, and compatibility or preference indicators derived from the information you provide. Compatibility is an informational feature—not a statement of fact about you or another person.
Device, log, and usage information
When you use the Services, our infrastructure and analytics providers may receive device, browser, operating-system, IP-address, app-version, event, diagnostic, and general usage information. We use this information to operate the Services, troubleshoot, secure them, understand aggregate use, and improve performance.
Information from other sources
We may receive information from app stores, payment and subscription providers, service providers acting for us, people who report a concern, and connection features you choose to enable. We do not require you to provide a social profile or contacts to use the basic service unless a feature clearly says otherwise.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Create and maintain accounts, profiles, and requested features.
- Facilitate relevant roommate introductions, profile discovery, compatibility signals, and mutual-connection features.
- Personalize service content and remember your settings.
- Respond to support requests, feedback, reports, and questions.
- Send account, security, service, and transaction communications. Where required, we obtain consent or provide an unsubscribe option for marketing communications.
- Protect users, enforce our Terms, investigate abuse or fraud, and maintain the security and integrity of the Services.
- Analyze, test, and improve the Services, including through aggregated or de-identified information where appropriate.
- Comply with law, respond to valid legal process, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
When we share information
We do not rent personal information. We may share it only as described below.
- With other RoomMe users. Profile information and other content you choose to make available can be visible to people using the relevant feature. Use care when choosing what to share. Connection and mutual features may display limited relationship signals needed for the feature; we do not make an address book publicly available merely because a connection feature is enabled.
- With service providers. We use providers that help us host, store, authenticate, analyze, support, secure, and operate the Services. They may process information only to provide services to us or as otherwise permitted by law. Our current web stack includes Firebase services for application infrastructure and analytics.
- With app stores, payment, and subscription providers. We share information needed to provide purchases, subscriptions, or customer support for those transactions.
- For legal, safety, and business reasons. We may disclose information to comply with law or valid legal process; protect the rights, safety, and security of RoomMe, our users, or others; investigate suspected misuse; or in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.
- With your direction or consent. We share information when you ask us to, or where you separately agree.
Your choices and rights
You can update certain profile information and settings in the Services. You can control device permissions, including contacts, notifications, camera, location, and social connections, through your device or in-product settings where available. Turning off a permission can limit related features.
To delete your account, follow the steps at roomme.app/delete-account. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, contact us at roomme.contact@gmail.com with the subject line Privacy Request. We may ask for information necessary to verify the request and will respond as required by applicable law. We may retain limited information when necessary for security, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution, legal obligations, or to enforce our agreements.
U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live and whether a privacy law applies to RoomMe, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, opt out of certain processing, appeal a decision, or receive a portable copy of certain data. California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising applicable rights. Submit a request using the contact method above.
We do not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals because there is no uniform industry standard. Where a legally required opt-out preference signal applies to RoomMe, we will process it as required by law.
Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain your account, meet the purposes described here, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. The period varies by the nature of the information and our reason for keeping it. When information is no longer needed, we delete it, anonymize it, or take steps to put it beyond use, subject to backups and legal retention needs.
Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information appropriate to the nature of the data and the Services. No system, transmission, or storage method is perfectly secure, and you should protect your account credentials and use care when communicating with others.
International processing
RoomMe and its service providers may process information in the United States and other places where they operate. Those places may have privacy laws that differ from the laws where you live.
Children
RoomMe is for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided personal information to RoomMe, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the Services or applicable law change. If we make a material change, we will provide notice as required by law and update the date at the top of this page.
Questions, concerns, and privacy requests can be sent to roomme.contact@gmail.com.
